A Neighborhood tradition, A Legacy of good Food.
Proudly serving our community for over two decades.
- It Started With Mama -
Mama Carmela's was founded in 2001 by Frank Colandro and named for his mother, Carmela — the cook who inspired his love of food. Frank's way of doing things was simple: make honest food, serve it generously, and take care of everyone who walks through the door.
He treated customers like family, and the deli filled up with his personality, his smile, and his love for this town.
- Part of the Neighborhood -
For over two decades, Mama Carmela's has served neighbors, commuters, families, students, and generations of Darien customers. Frank was proudest of feeding Darien's Blue Wave teams — team breakfasts and pasta dinners before the big games — and the photos of local athletes became part of the walls.
His legacy is still on the menu. Frank's Favorite — steak, cheese, and chili on a wedge — has its place to this day.
- Made Like Mama's -
Bacon, egg and cheese in the morning. Chicken cutlets, Italian combos, steak and cheese wedges, fresh mozzarella, soups, salads, and hot plates at lunch — made fresh, made to order, no shortcuts.
No chain-store experience. Just real deli food, handed across the counter with the warmest of welcomes.
